  • Religion*: A "John Hudson" was a charter member of Palestine Methodist church. This could have been either John E. Hudson, or his father, John B. Hudson.13
  • Milit-Beg*: He began military service on 5 May 1862 at Verona, Mississippi, Co. E/F, 41st Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers, Capt. S. E. Melson's Company. During his service in the Confederate Army, John Hudson wrote many letters to his wife, which have survived to the present day. His letters show that he was anxious to return to his family, and that the conditions under which he served were difficult.14,15,16,17
  • Milit-End*: He was noted as "Missing. Left sick in McLimore's Cove" in his military records. A subsequent record listed him as "Missing, Captured in McLemore's Cove Sept. 12, 1863." The 41st Regiment of Mississippi Volunteers was engaged in the area of McLemore's Cove in northwest Georgia, on Sept. 12, 1863, in the maneuvers that preceded the battle of Chickamagua (which occurred on September 18-20, 1863) .16,18,19,20,21
